Pro-life Lesko Defeats Extremist Who Opposes Any Limits on Abortion – Even Partial-birth Abortion

Washington, DC Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) celebrated as its endorsed candidate, former state senator Debbie Lesko, defeated NARAL-backed Hiral Tipirneni for U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona’s 8th congressional district.

“We congratulate Debbie Lesko, a pro-life champion who will fight wholeheartedly to protect unborn children and their mothers,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The contrast between Debbie and her opponent, an extremist who opposes any limits on abortion – even on partial-birth abortion – could not have been greater. Arizona voters sent a resounding message tonight by electing Debbie to stand up to the abortion lobby and defend their pro-life values in Washington. We are encouraged by her victory and look forward to working together to save innocent lives.”

Lesko was elected to the Arizona Senate in 2015 after serving three terms in the state House of Representatives. She has sponsored legislation to hold abortion facilities accountable to health and safety standards and prevent tax dollars from being used to fund abortion. She has a consistent pro-life voting record, including supporting Arizona’s ban on late-term abortions after five months of pregnancy, when science shows unborn children can feel pain.

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 630,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
