Receives Honor at Annual Weyrich Awards Dinner

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night the national pro-life group the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) was honored to receive the award for Grassroots Organization of the Year at the prestigious Weyrich Awards Dinner. The Weyrich Awards honor groups and individuals deemed to have made a major contribution to advancing the cause of liberty and who follow in the footsteps of conservative champion Paul Weyrich, the first president of the Heritage Foundation.

Accepting the award on behalf of the SBA List’s 365,000 members nationwide, SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser explained that the pro-life movement is powered by the grassroots. Dannenfelser noted the pro-life movement’s recent successes by quoting famed nonviolent social justice activist Mahatma Gandhi: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

During the 2012 election cycle, the SBA List spent $11.2 million nationwide in pursuit of three goals: 1) ensure the presidential challenger made specific pro-life commitments, 2) combat the “war on women” narrative, and 3) expose the extreme abortion agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party of abortion on-demand paid for by the taxpayers. The SBA List’s aggressive, multifaceted campaign included two multi-swing state bus tours, a coalition field operation program, hard-hitting television and radio spots, billboards, targeted voter-contact mail, automated calls, and polling.

This year, the SBA List continues to lead the fight to protect unborn children, mothers, and pro-life taxpayers. At the federal level, the SBA List was a key coalition-builder among pro-life and social conservative groups with the launch of the Call2Conscience.com campaign. More than fifty national and statewide groups signed on to the coalition to apply intense grassroots pressure on Congress to protect Americans of faith and conscience from the Obama Administration’s abortion pill mandate.

SBA List is also looking ahead to the 2013 and 2014 elections to ensure authentic pro-life leaders are elected at all levels of government. Earlier this month, the SBA List endorsed Ken Cuccinelli for Governor in Virginia and pledged $1.5 million to the race.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
