Nat’l Pro-life Group Stands with Local Allies, Urges Congress & DOJ to Act

Washington, D.C. – Today as authorities reportedly discovered more fetal remains on the Illinois property of late abortionist Ulrich “George” Klopfer, in addition to 2,246 preserved bodies of aborted babies found late last month, Susan B. Anthony List’s State Policy Director Sue Swayze Liebel, an Indiana native, released the following statement:

“Each additional revelation of Ulrich Klopfer’s depravity is a stark reminder that the abortion industry profits from the destruction of unborn children and exploitation of vulnerable women on a similar scale every day. We grieve for the little ones denied their very humanity and with the mothers forced to relive the trauma endured at Klopfer’s hands, wondering if their child is among his collection of bodies. All of Klopfer’s victims deserved so much better. We are grateful to Senators Mike Braun and Todd Young, as well as Representatives Jackie Walorksi and Jim Banks for acting swiftly to ensure the bodies of all aborted children are treated with dignity. We call on Congress to pass the Dignity for Aborted Children Act and urge the Trump administration to provide local officials whatever assistance they need to conduct a thorough investigation.”

Previously U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) introduced federal legislation to require respectful disposition of the remains of unborn children in response to the initial discovery. The Dignity for Aborted Children Act’s co-sponsors include Sens. Todd Young (R-IN), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Cornyn (R-TX), Rick Scott (R-FL), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), and Ted Cruz (R-TX). The bill is similar to an Indiana law, signed in 2016 by then-Governor Mike Pence and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year, requiring the humane and dignified disposition of human fetal remains.

Additionally, Sens. Young and Braun sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General William Barr requesting assistance in the multi-state investigation. U.S. Reps. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) and Jim Banks (R-IN), along with 65 House Republican colleagues also called on the Department of Justice for assistance.

SBA List is a network of more than 837,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
