SBA List’s Her PLAN, AG Lynn Fitch Team Up to #EmpowerWomenPromoteLife
Washington, D.C. – Today SBA List’s Her PLAN in partnership with Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the launch of the “Empower Women Promote Life Donation Drive,” a virtual baby shower benefitting nearly two dozen pregnancy centers across Mississippi. Wish lists compiled by the centers may be viewed and fulfilled online at herplan.org/virtual-baby-shower/. Purchased items will be shipped directly to the centers and used to help the women and children they support.
“We may have to wait on the Court’s Dobbs decision for a few more months, but we don’t have to wait to show the world that we stand ready to support women,” said Fitch. “This Valentine’s Day, I’m asking you to join me in showing a little extra love to these centers and the women they support by participating in a virtual baby shower for pregnancy centers all across Mississippi.”
Her PLAN (Her Pregnancy and Life Assistance Network), a project of Susan B. Anthony List Education Fund, works to strengthen the pro-life safety net, starting in states most likely to end abortion should Roe v. Wade be dismantled. Her PLAN currently operates nationally and in four states: Georgia, Mississippi, Virginia and West Virginia.
SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented on the inspiration for the donation drive:
“The soul of the pro-life movement is love for both unborn children and their mothers. Thousands of pregnancy centers, maternity homes, and other community heroes across the nation have spent decades demonstrating that love and compassion every day through their service to women and families facing difficult situations. In stark contrast, the abortion industry offers only one ‘solution’: get rid of the child. With a decision in the Dobbs case on the horizon, countless Americans are asking how we will care for the children who will be born into a nation that rejects abortion. Through initiatives like Her PLAN, the Texas Alternatives to Abortion program, and many more, the pro-life movement stands ready to provide the resources necessary to choose life.”
Anja Baker, Mississippi state coordinator for Her PLAN, added:
“We are so thankful for all our friends in the Her PLAN network, the pregnancy center movement, Attorney General Fitch and the people of Mississippi for boldly leading the charge to build a pro-life America that truly supports babies and mothers.”
Mississippi is home to more than 30 life-affirming pregnancy resource centers that provide care and practical support to women and babies before and after birth. In 2019 alone, these centers provided $1.9 million in services and materials to more than 12,000 people.
The Supreme Court has said it will address whether all pre-viability abortion limits are unconstitutional in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The Court heard oral arguments in the case on December 1, 2021, and a decision is expected by the summer of 2022.
“When the Supreme Court releases its hold on abortion policymaking, we will show the world that we are ready and willing to empower women and promote life,” said Fitch.
Public opinion polls as well as a record number of pro-life state laws enacted in recent years indicate growing momentum to challenge the national status quo of abortion on demand up to birth imposed by Roe v. Wade. A recent Marist/Knights of Columbus poll found 71% of Americans want significant limits on abortion.
SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
Her PLAN (Her Pregnancy and Life Assistance Network) facilitates collaboration between assistance providers and their communities in order to empower women and families through comprehensive medical, social, and material support. Her PLAN is a project of Susan B. Anthony List Education Fund.
