Reconciliation Provides Critical Opportunity to Defund Abortion Giant Planned Parenthood of Approx. $500M in Taxpayer Dollars
Washington, D.C. – Hundreds of grassroots activists from across the country will be hitting congressional offices today advocating for Congress to defund the Big Abortion Industry led by Planned Parenthood.
More than 300 pro-life constituents from 39 states, including hundreds of students, will meet with members of Congress and staff to urge action through the budget reconciliation process.
The day of action follows a letter sent to members of Congress this week, signed by over 150 national and state pro-life leaders representing groups from all 50 states, encouraging them to seize the moment and stop the flow of American tax dollars toward the abortion industry.
Reconciliation bills in 2015 and 2017 included a provision to stop funneling American tax dollars to Big Abortion. With a Republican trifecta, this year Congress can finally end funding for an industry that endangers women, kills unborn children and spends millions lobbying for abortion on demand with no limits. Per their last annual report, Planned Parenthood alone took the lives of nearly 400,000 babies and received almost $700 million – nearly $2 million a day – from taxpayers in just one year.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:
“The pro-life movement is strong and united for defunding Big Abortion. The multi-billion-dollar abortion industry led by Planned Parenthood profits from killing over 1 million babies a year, harms countless women and girls, and funnels millions toward pro-abortion politicians – all while raking in our tax dollars hand over fist. Members of Congress can expect a visit today from hundreds of grassroots activists from all over the country urging them to fulfill a longtime promise to end this corrupt racket. We thank President Trump for taking steps to enforce the Hyde Amendment and defund Big Abortion through Title X, because abortion on demand is not family planning. The largest source of federal taxpayer funds for Planned Parenthood is Medicaid at approximately half a billion dollars a year. The Republican Congress must tackle this through legislation. The reconciliation process provides a critical opportunity to do that without being blocked by extremist Democrats who are wedded to Big Abortion’s agenda.”
The evidence is clear – Big Abortion harms women and girls, destroys unborn babies’ lives and is a terrible investment for taxpayers:
