“Slap in the Face” to Pro-Life States, Voters Just Months Ahead of Midterms
Washington, D.C. – Today the U.S. Department of Justice moved to dismiss lawsuits brought by Florida and Texas against the Food and Drug Administration – siding with the abortion industry on mail-order drugs against pro-life states for the second time in a week. In response, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:
“It’s a disgrace that pro-life states like Florida and Texas are having to fight the Trump-Vance administration in court to uphold their laws and that extremists like Gavin Newsom are being allowed to dictate their policy. The Trump-Vance DOJ has clearly established a policy of siding with the abortion industry as it breaks laws, kills babies and harms women and girls.
“Twenty-one Republican attorneys general including James Uthmeier and Ken Paxton, 51 U.S. senators and 175 members of Congress have repeatedly asked this administration to stand up for their right to enforce laws protecting their people. Florida and Texas are the two biggest pro-life states in the country, with laws that protect more than 100,000 lives a year combined. But these laws cannot protect vulnerable people and the public health as long as the federal government is undermining them by leaving Biden’s mail-order abortion drug rule in place.
“This week we were proud to support Senator Josh Hawley and Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger to introduce legislation to withdraw the FDA’s approval of abortion drugs. This comes on the heels of another heinous poisoning of a mother, resulting in the death of baby Presley Mae, and mounting evidence that abortion drugs are more dangerous than the FDA ever let on. But the administration has always had the power to stop abetting the mail-order abortion drug crisis and reinstate commonsense safeguards like in-person doctor visits immediately. If this were any other drug taking hundreds of thousands of American lives a year, it would not be tolerated.
“This motion to dismiss is a slap in the face to red state allies everywhere, the MAHA movement, and Republicans’ deeply loyal pro-life base. Our field team is on the ground in key battleground states, talking to voters at their doorsteps every day. Just eight months from midterms, the peril for the GOP is serious and growing.”
A nationwide survey conducted by Cygnal finds Republican primary voters overwhelmingly disapprove of allowing mail-order abortion drugs and back pro-life policies like the Hyde Amendment. One-third of those voters would be less enthusiastic about voting in November and less willing to volunteer if GOP leaders abandon pro-life policies.
