Wendy Davis Runs in the Opposite Direction

In response to the announcement that Texas state Senator Wendy Davis will run for Governor, SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser had the following comment:

“Wendy Davis entered the national spotlight campaigning against a compassionate limit on late term abortion beyond the fifth to sixth month mark. National and Texas-based polls show that her extreme position contradicts mainstream Americans who simply cannot stomach the brutality of late-term abortion, especially in the wake of Kermit Gosnell. While more and more Americans, most notably women and young people, are moving towards common ground on abortion issues, Wendy Davis is running in the opposite direction. Wendy has gone so far as to cast her abortion position as ‘sacred ground’ on a recent visit to Washington, DC. This extremism is a moral and political mistake that will repel voters, including many Hispanics and women.”

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation to prohibit abortions nationwide past 20 weeks gestation, about the 6-month mark. National polling from the Huffington Post shows that by a margin of 59 percent to 30 percent, Americans favor a federal law prohibiting abortion after 20 weeks. This includes Americans who are in favor of abortion generally (30 percent) and those conflicted on the issue (70 percent).

The SBA List has compiled an ever-expanding fact sheet on abortion industry negligence and brutality occurring nationwide including at the hands of abortionist Douglas Karpen in Houston, Texas. In May, former staff members of the Aaron Women’s Clinic brought forward photographic evidence of horrific late-term abortions and potential infanticide committed by Karpen, currently under investigation by Harris County District Attorney’s office.
