Pro-life Group Exposes Marie Newman’s Abortion Extremism, Turns Out Pro-life Democrats in IL-03 Primary

Washington, D.C.  – Today the pro-life Women Speak Out PAC announced a five-figure campaign to support longtime pro-life champion incumbent Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) against pro-abortion primary challengers including NARAL-backed Marie Newman. Women Speak Out is the partner Super PAC for the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List.

Last week, Rep. Lipinski was one of only three Democrats in the U.S. House to vote in favor of a motion to recommit which included the text of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and would have protected babies who survive abortions.

According to polling by Women Speak Out PAC, 75 percent of likely Democratic primary voters in IL-03 support protections for babies who survive failed abortions. 44 percent support restrictions on abortion after the first trimester and 45 percent oppose taxpayer funding of abortion.

The campaign to reach more than 17,000 pro-life Democratic households in the district includes digital ads, phone calls, and voter contact mail, and builds upon data gleaned during the groups’ 2018 canvassing operation. Last cycle, SBA List’s team of 70 canvassers, including SBA List staff and students from nearby universities, visited pro-life voters in the final days of the race to turn out pro-life Democrats.

“Congressman Lipinski isn’t just a pro-life vote, he continues to speak out in defense of the unborn and their mothers in the face of his party’s radical pro-abortion leadership,” Mallory Quigley, national spokeswoman for Women Speak Out PAC’s independent expenditure campaigns. “Congressman Lipinski has been a champion of commonsense, compassionate, and popular legislation to stop taxpayer funding of abortion, to end late-term abortion, and to protect babies born-alive after failed abortions. The current Democratic leadership may say there is no room for voices like Dan’s in their party, but we need him now more than ever.

“Marie Newman is an abortion extremist who supports a radical agenda of abortion on demand through birth, and even beyond. This is a bridge too far, even for many Democrats – 75 percent of voters in the third district support protections for infants born-alive during failed abortions. We hope to see Rep. Lipinski once again triumph over Newman’s abortion extremism.”

Nationwide polling released by SBA List finds that 77 percent of voters, including 70 percent of Democrats, support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support).

National polls have found that as many as 51 percent of Democrats support limiting abortion after five months, more than halfway through pregnancy. Support for the legislation is also strong among traditional Democratic voter groups, including millennials (78 percent), African-Americans (70 percent), and Hispanics (57 percent).

SBA List is a network of more than 837,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
