Sen. Marsha Blackburn

Tennessee (Republican)

Summary

118th Congress Sen. Blackburn has stood up against the extremist nominees of the pro-abortion Biden-Harris administration, and against pro-abortion action both in the administration and through legislation advanced by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Sen. Blackburn has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, including abortion travel expenses, whether domestically or internationally, and pushing back on the administration’s extreme abortion executive actions.

Sen. Blackburn introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (S. 624) that would prohibit the Department of Health and Human Services from awarding family planning grants to entities that perform abortions or funding other entities that perform abortions. Sen. Blackburn spoke multiple times on the Senate floor about violence against pro-life organizations and called out the radical pro-abortion group Jane's Revenge. In a Senate Judiciary hearing with Attorney General Merrick Garland, Sen. Blackburn demanded answers regarding the politicized arrest of pro-life activist Mark Houck and the Department of Justice’s use of the FACE Act to punish sidewalk counselors but not hold accountable perpetrators of violence against pregnancy centers. She also questioned pro-abortion witnesses about late-term abortion and violence against pregnancy centers.

117th Congress
Senator Blackburn has stood up against extremist nominees of the pro-abortion Biden-Harris administration, against pro-abortion action both in the administration and through legislation advanced by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Sen. Blackburn has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, whether domestically or internationally, and protecting health care provider rights for those who refuse to engage in brutal abortions.

Senator Blackburn introduced S. 1325, the Woman's Right to Know Act, S. 2270, the Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act, and S. 88, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. She also asked for unanimous consent to pass S. 88, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. Sen. Blackburn also spoke in opposition to the confirmation of HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra due to his abortion extremism. She sent a letter demanding that Google stop silencing pro-life views and reverse unjust censorship, and she co-led a bicameral letter to the GAO requesting updated information on federal funding of abortion providers. Sen. Blackburn gave a speech defending life during a Senate press conference on the eve of oral arguments in the Dobbs v. JWHO Supreme Court case. She then gave remarks at a Judiciary hearing on the impact of its overturning of Roe v. Wade. She also pressed the pro-life issue at confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson and highlighted the moving testimony of a sidewalk counselor similar to those Jackson had worked to silence.

116th Congress
Senator Blackburn has voted consistently to protect the lives of unborn babies and infants as well as the consciences of taxpayers who don’t want their hard-earned tax dollars paying for abortion domestically or internationally. While the pro-abortion majority in the U.S. House of Representatives continually sends the Senate bills that roll back pro-life protections, the Senate has made it their priority to confirm judges and justices who will respect the constitution and leave legislating to the legislative branch.

The first bill Marsha Blackburn introduced as a senator was S. 105, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, ensuring family planning dollars don't subsidize abortion providers. She also introduced S. 1966, the Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act, and advocated for the rights of born-alive infants during a Judiciary Committee hearing on S. 311, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. She co-led the pro-life bicameral amicus brief with Senator Kennedy, Whip Scalise, and Congressman Mike Johnson in the June Medical Services v. Russo case, with a record 207 signers.
