Sen. Mike Braun

Indiana (Republican)

Summary

118th Congress Sen. Braun has stood up against the extremist nominees of the pro-abortion Biden-Harris administration and against pro-abortion action both in the administration and through legislation advanced by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Sen. Braun has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, including abortion travel expenses, whether domestically or internationally, and pushing back on the administration’s extreme executive actions on abortion.

Sen. Braun introduced the No Taxpayer Funding for Health Centers Providing Abortion Act (S. 750) to prohibit grants awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration through the Health Center Program from being used to provide abortions. He introduced a resolution recognizing January 22nd as the Day of Tears (S.Res. 10) that would lower the United States flag to half-staff to memorialize unborn children who have lost their lives to abortion. He introduced the Parental Notification and Intervention Act of 2023 (S. 1103) to stop abortion facilities from performing abortions on minors before the child's parent has received written notice that their daughter is seeking an abortion and has had an opportunity to intervene. Sen. Braun introduced the Dignity for Aborted Children Act (S. 1102) to set requirements for the dignified disposal of the baby’s remains after an abortion. Sen. Braun spoke on the Senate floor against a Democratic bill that would fund dangerous abortion drugs and remove conscience protections for pro-life organizations.

In a Senate Budget Committee hearing, Sen. Braun highlighted the network of resources available to women and families who choose life.

117th Congress
Senator Braun has stood up against extremist nominees of the pro-abortion Biden-Harris administration, against pro-abortion action both in the administration and through legislation advanced by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Sen. Braun has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, whether domestically or internationally, and protecting health care provider rights for those who refuse to engage in brutal abortions.

Senator Braun pressed HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra on his refusal to acknowledge the existence of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban. He also questioned Becerra about his refusal to specify whether he would commit to enforcing the Hyde Amendment, and called out Becerra’s refusal to comply with the Weldon Amendment when he was Attorney General of California. Sen. Braun offered pro-life amendments to S. 1260, the United States Innovation and Competition Act, to prohibit the creation of certain human-animal chimeras, to H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan Act, to prohibit funding for abortions with respect to COBRA continuation of health care coverage for employees. He sent a letter demanding that Google stop silencing pro-life views and reverse unjust censorship. He also highlighted the harms of chemical abortion during a hearing with Biden nominee for FDA Commissioner. Sen. Braun also sponsored the Human-Animal Chimera Prohibition Act and co-led a bicameral letter to NIH expressing concern with human-animal chimera research. He requested unanimous consent for the Senate to adopt his resolution designating the anniversary of Roe v. Wade as A Day of Tears. Sen Braun also gave remarks at a Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions hearing on the impact of the Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. JWHO, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

116th Congress
Senator Braun has voted consistently to protect the lives of unborn babies and infants as well as the consciences of taxpayers who don’t want their hard-earned tax dollars paying for abortion domestically or internationally. While the pro-abortion majority in the U.S. House of Representatives continually sends the Senate bills that roll back pro-life protections, the Senate has made it their priority to confirm judges and justices who will respect the constitution and leave legislating to the legislative branch.

Senator Braun participated in debate on the Senate floor in favor of S. 311, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and S. 3275, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. He authored S. 2590, the Dignity for Aborted Children Act, and requested unanimous consent for its passage. Senator Braun also led a bicameral letter with Congressman Warren Davidson to Secretary of the Treasury Mnuchin, requesting that abortion not be itemized as a healthcare expense for tax breaks.
