Idahoans Have Clearly Expressed Their Will in Protecting Life
Washington, D.C. – The Biden Justice Department announced it filed a lawsuit today to invalidate Idaho’s S.B. 1385. Passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Brad Little in 2020, the law broadly protects unborn children and their mothers throughout pregnancy following the Dobbs decision.
Attorney General Merrick Garland falsely characterized the law as prohibiting treatment for women suffering medical emergencies. A new Charlotte Lozier Institute legal and medical analysis shows that all 23 states with strong pro-life laws currently on the books allow necessary and timely medical treatment for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and other procedures necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.
The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America blasted the Biden administration, saying:
“In Dobbs, the U.S. Supreme Court made it expressly clear that abortion policy belongs in the hands of the people and their elected representatives. The people of Idaho made their voices heard when their legislature passed and Governor Little signed strong protections for the unborn and their mothers throughout pregnancy,” said Adam Schwend, western regional director for SBA Pro-Life America. “Now unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. are running to court once again to impose their extreme pro-abortion agenda. At the same time, the Biden administration and leading Democrats have ignored – or worse, encouraged – scores of attacks on pregnancy centers, pro-life nonprofits and houses of worship since the leaked Dobbs opinion.
Schwend continued: “The governor and legislature took bold steps to protect unborn life in Idaho. We stand with them and the people of Idaho against the pro-abortion lies and bullying of the Biden administration which hurt women and children.”
SBA Pro-Life America has been tracking pro-life legislation in the states. Since the Dobbs decision, at least a dozen states including Idaho have taken action to protect life.
