Democrats’ Unpopular Agenda of Taxpayer-funded Abortion on Demand, and Even Infanticide, is a Major General Election Liability

Washington, D.C. – Tonight the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released the following statement in response to the first round of Democratic presidential debates:

“The clear winner of tonight’s debate was the radical abortion lobby. Not a single candidate, from Booker to Warren, speaks for the majority of Americans – including a strong majority of Independents and more than one third of Democrats – who oppose using tax dollars to pay for abortions,” SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “While President Trump has led the charge to protect babies from infanticide and late-term abortions as well as stopping taxpayer-funded experiments with aborted baby body parts, measures which have broad support from the American people, Democratic contenders double down on a deeply unpopular agenda of taxpayer-funded abortion on demand and join corporate bullies in attacking Georgia’s compassionate heartbeat law. Our latest polling shows their extremism will be a major liability with voters in the general election.”

A new poll released today by SBA List finds that a majority (55%) of voters oppose using federal tax dollars to pay for abortions under Medicaid (40% strongly oppose). This includes opposition among 35% of Democratic voters and 57% of Independent voters.

The poll also found that:

  • 50% of voters are less likely to support Joe Biden (35% strongly less likely to support) following his announcement that he supports using tax dollars to pay for abortions after decades of opposing taxpayer funding of abortion. This includes 55% of Independent voters who say they are less likely to support him.
  • 57% of voters oppose taxpayer funding of experiments that use organs and other body parts from aborted babies (41% strongly oppose). This includes 61% opposition among women voters.
  • 54% of voters disapprove of big corporations, such as Netflix and Disney, getting involved with abortion politics (40% strongly disapprove). This includes strong opposition from Republicans (69%) and Independents (59%).

President Donald Trump has consistently called out the Democratic Party for their support of late-term abortion and even infanticide, following efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize abortion on demand through birth, and has called on Congress to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would stop late-term abortions after five months of pregnancy when science shows unborn children can feel pain.

SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
