Gosnell’s Shocking Murder Trial Exposed Failure of Authorities, Media to Investigate Serial Killer
Washington, D.C. – Infamous abortionist and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell has died in prison at 85 years old. Gosnell, a self-described “soldier in a war against poverty,” killed women and children for 30 years at his Philadelphia abortion center described by many as a house of horrors.
Gosnell’s trial shocked the conscience of the nation and pulled back the curtain on abortion center abuses including dirty instruments, painful late-term abortions, born-alive abortions, keeping baby body parts as “trophies” and more. He was convicted on three counts of murder for severing the spinal cords of late-term infants delivered alive, one count of manslaughter for the death of a woman, and over 200 lesser counts including illegal third-trimester abortions under Pennsylvania law, though the grand jury suspected much more. Gosnell was sentenced to life in prison in 2013.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented on the significance of Gosnell’s conviction and death:
“Kermit Gosnell is not an outlier among abortionists, he is only one of the few to be brought to some measure of justice for black-letter crimes. From Ulrich ‘George’ Klopfer hoarding more than 2,200 tiny bodies on his Indiana property, to Planned Parenthood being criminally referred for the harvest and sale of baby body parts, to Minnesota Democrats led by Tim Walz burying evidence of babies born alive and left to die, the corruption endemic to the brutal abortion industry is still very much alive.
“The ripple effects of Gosnell’s slaughter of innocent Americans continue today. His actions represent profound evil, yet like many politicians he justified them as service to the poor and held himself in esteem. And he didn’t operate in a silo. His crimes spanned 30 years because people and organizations turned a blind eye. The National Abortion Federation inspected his slaughterhouse in 2009 and denied him membership for the horrors they saw. But they never reported it to authorities – allowing the killing to continue unabated until he was finally investigated on drug charges. Even the death of a 41-year-old refugee named Karnamaya Mongar prompted no action to shut him down. A bipartisan failure, his facility ran unchecked for over a decade under ‘pro-choice’ GOP Gov. Tom Ridge as regulators ignored the massive red flags rather than put up ‘barriers’ to abortion, while Democrats like Josh Shapiro have overseen an explosion in failed health inspections.
“From the beginning, corporate media had to be shamed into covering what they deemed a ‘local crime’ story. Today, as then, Kermit Gosnell will likely get a few seconds – if that – before the news cycle moves on, even though he is arguably the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history. The gruesome reality of abortion in America makes many in positions of power uncomfortable. But Gosnell’s legacy of awakening the public to the true horrors of abortion cannot be dismissed or ignored. As the great William Wilberforce said of the evil of the slave trade nearly two centuries ago, you may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.”
