Abortion Industry Claims Women Should Abort Their Children to Prevent Poverty
Washington, D.C. – Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America expressed deep disappointment as a North Dakota judge temporarily blocked a state law that would broadly protect unborn children and their mothers from abortion throughout pregnancy, just as the law was set to take effect Friday.
“Shame on Judge Romanick for siding with the abortion industry against the voters and their legislature. Appallingly, the Red River Women’s Clinic argues that women need to abort their unborn children to reduce poverty,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America. “Abortion is violence, it is not a cure for economic inequality. In North Dakota and across the country, community-based health clinics and pregnancy centers provide holistic care and support for underserved populations including low-income women. In contrast, the profit-driven abortion industry takes the life of a child and leaves the mother on her own to deal with the trauma and complications of abortion.
“Women everywhere deserve so much better. In North Dakota, lawmakers are seeing to it that they can receive counseling, pregnancy testing, prenatal education, parenting education, and referrals free of charge. We call on Governor Burgum and our pro-life allies in the state to stand up to the abortion lobby and continue fighting for women and children.”
Since the Dobbs decision, more than a dozen states have taken action to protect life, with the potential to save more than 200,000 lives. North Dakota is one of at least 14 states that provide Alternatives to Abortion funding to life-affirming Pregnancy Help Organizations (PHOs), which typically include pregnancy centers, adoption agencies, maternity homes and life-affirming social service agencies that exist to help mothers and their families.
