Washington, D.C. – Today the U.S. State Department released a report on the implementation of President Donald Trump’s Executive Memorandum, issued at the beginning of his presidency, reinstating and expanding the Mexico City Policy which stops U.S. taxpayer funding of the abortion industry overseas. The expanded, modernized policy, renamed Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance (PLGHA), applies to all foreign health assistance provided by government agencies.
The report issued today states that only eight out of 1,340 prime awardees refused to agree with the policy, while efforts were made to avoid gaps in care through new partnerships.
“President Trump and Secretary Pompeo are boldly defending life across the globe, refusing to let U.S. tax dollars fund the abortion industry overseas,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Today’s report on the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance shows that the U.S. can still provide foreign aid without sacrificing the dignity of unborn human life, with only eight of 1,340 prime awardees refusing to comply with the Trump/Pompeo pro-life policy. It is no surprise that International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International refuse to comply with the policy, as they are extremists who are committed to promoting abortion on-demand throughout the globe, forfeiting their eligibility for funding.
“In contrast to President Trump, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want to force taxpayers to pay for abortions both here at home and abroad. The Biden/Harris ticket is the most pro-abortion in our nation’s history and must be defeated. That is why SBA List is committed to re-electing President Trump and Vice President Pence — countless lives of children at home and abroad are on the ballot.”
SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
