Youngkin Admin’s Pro-Life Leadership Contrasts with Democrats Who Push to Expand Abortion on Demand, Paid for by Taxpayers

Washington, D.C.Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America today celebrated the pro-life leadership of Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin after he proposed a budget amendment to stop taxpayer-funded abortion. The governor’s budget would restore a policy that mirrors the federal Hyde Amendment, which has saved more than 2.5 million lives.

Youngkin is keeping his promise to promote pro-life policies that protect the unborn and their mothers.

“We praise Governor Youngkin for keeping a key promise to pro-life voters and acting swiftly on the will of the people, who overwhelmingly reject abortion on demand. Abortion is not ‘family planning’ and Virginians’ hard-earned tax dollars should never be funneled to the abortion industry,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America. “Democrats used to claim abortion should be ‘safe, legal and rare.’ Now pro-abortion Democrats in states like Virginia and in D.C. increasingly push to expand abortion on demand until birth, paid for by taxpayers – and the U.S. abortion rate that had been declining for decades is rising again. Gov. Youngkin’s strong pro-life leadership at this crucial moment will save lives and the Assembly should adopt this budget amendment with bipartisan support.”

Since entering office in 2021, Youngkin, Attorney General Jason Miyares, and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears have worked tirelessly to protect the unborn and advocate for their mothers:

  • Youngkin appointed Angela Sailor as Chief Diversity, Opportunity & Inclusion Officer of the Commonwealth. She has been tasked to eliminate disparities in prenatal care and being “an ambassador for unborn children.”
  • Miyares filed a motion in January urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold Mississippi’s 15-week abortion limit and return the right to set abortion policy to the people of each state and their elected representatives. The motion reverses the pro-abortion Northam administration’s stance in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case in which the Court will address the constitutionality of pre-viability limits on abortion.
  • In April, Youngkin joined thousands of pro-life Virginians at the Virginia March for Life.

Last year, Women Speak Out Virginia – 2021 successfully ran a $1.4 million campaign to defeat McAuliffe and support Youngkin. The independent expenditure campaign included hard-hitting digital ads and voter contact mail to persuadable as well as pro-life voters who don’t consistently vote.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
