Sen. Ted Cruz
Texas (Republican)
Summary
118th Congress Sen. Cruz has stood up against the extremist nominees of the pro-abortion Biden-Harris administration and against pro-abortion action both in the administration and through legislation advanced by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Sen. Cruz has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, including abortion travel expenses, whether domestically or internationally, and pushing back on the administration’s extreme executive actions on abortion.
In a Senate Judiciary hearing with Attorney General Merrick Garland, Sen. Cruz demanded answers regarding the politicized arrest of pro-life activist Mark Houck and the Department of Justice’s imbalanced use of the FACE Act to punish sidewalk counselors while failing to hold perpetrators of violence against pregnancy centers accountable. In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Cruz opposed the deceptively-named Equal Rights Amendment, which would enshrine unlimited abortion on demand into the United States Constitution. In a hearing, Sen. Cruz supported ending a policy at military academies that pressured female cadets to have abortions, and he pressed pro-abortion witnesses on the radical position of Democrats, who support abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Sen. Cruz co-led a letter to the Secretary of the Smithsonian in response to reports that pro-life students were removed from the Air and Space Museum for refusing to remove their pro-life hats. He sent a similar letter to the acting archivist Debra Steidel Wall after a group of pro-life Americans were treated poorly at the National Archives Museum for wearing pro-life clothing. He sent a letter to leaders of various Big Tech firms asking about their coordination with federal officials in censoring pro-life Americans. He sent a letter to Attorney General Garland about the FBI possibly spying on a pro-life organization's meeting.
Sen. Cruz sent a letter to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, D.C. Chief Medical Examiner Francisco J. Diaz, and Chief Pamela A. Smith of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department urging them to preserve the remains of the D.C. Five for the purpose of conducting autopsies. The D.C. Five are the five children whose bodies were found outside a notorious late-term abortion clinic near the White House and who may have been victims of abortions violating the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban and Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. Sen. Cruz also sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani highlighting the Biden-Harris Department of Justice’s repeated targeting of peaceful pro-life protesters. In a speech on the Senate floor and in a hearing, Sen. Cruz he called out how pro-abortion Senate Democrats support legislation that would codify abortion on demand though all nine months of pregnancy and remove requirements for parental consent or notification.
117th Congress
Senator Cruz has stood up against extremist nominees of the pro-abortion Biden-Harris administration, against pro-abortion action both in the administration and through legislation advanced by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Sen. Cruz has voted consistently to defend the lives of the unborn and infants. This includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion, whether domestically or internationally, and protecting health care provider rights for those who refuse to engage in brutal abortions.
Senator Cruz led the Senate’s pro-life defense against the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify abortion as a right, and during a hearing on the bill, led a moment of silence to mourn the 62 million lives lost to abortion since Roe v. Wade. He also led a pro-life amicus brief along with Senator Hawley and Senator Lee in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization late-term abortion Supreme Court case. Sen. Cruz sent a letter demanding that Google stop silencing pro-life views and reverse unjust censorship and another to the mayor of Washington, D.C. urging her to ensure autopsies and proper investigations would be conducted on the bodies of the five babies discovered outside a local abortion clinic. He gave remarks at a Judiciary hearing on the impact of the Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. JWHO which overturned Roe v. Wade.
116th Congress
Senator Cruz has voted consistently to protect the lives of unborn babies and infants as well as the consciences of taxpayers who don’t want their hard-earned tax dollars paying for abortion domestically or internationally. While the pro-abortion majority in the U.S. House of Representatives continually sends the Senate bills that roll back pro-life protections, the Senate has made it their priority to confirm judges and justices who will respect the constitution and leave legislating to the legislative branch.
Senator Cruz advocated for the rights of born-alive infants during a Judiciary Committee hearing on S. 311, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, and participated in debate on the Senate floor in favor of the bill. He also spoke on the floor in favor of S. 3275, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and led a bicameral letter with Congressman Jody Hice asking that the dangerous chemical abortion drug be removed from market.
