New StemCellResearchFacts.org Video from Charlotte Lozier Institute Shows Impact of Ethical Stem Cell Treatment from Doctor, Patient Perspectives
Washington, D.C. – Today the Charlotte Lozier Institute announced the release of its latest testimonial video at StemCellResearchFacts.org, a project of the Washington, D.C.-based research and policy group. The video features the work of Dr. Joseph McGuirk, an adult stem cell expert at the University of Kansas Hospital, and tells the story of Chance Runnion’s recovery from leukemia after an adult stem cell transplant.
David Prentice, Vice President and Research Director of the Charlotte Lozier Institute and an international expert on stem cells, hailed the new video, saying:
“This video captures our excitement about major advances in treating conditions that were usually fatal until recently. Chance Runnion’s recovery is one of more than one million success stories thanks to adult stem cells. The media’s tendency to fixate on ethically problematic embryonic stem cell research is a distraction from what actually works. As Dr. McGuirk states, embryonic stem cells have not produced a single proven treatment, but there are nearly 3,500 approved clinical studies using adult stem cells. Peer-reviewed, scientific publications have documented their successful use in patients for dozens of conditions. StemCellResearchFacts.org exists to promote sound, ethical research and tell these stories so that the validated science can shine through and more patients like Chance can get back to living their lives.”
Charlotte Lozier Institute president Chuck Donovan added:
“For decades, grand promises were made about the potential for embryonic stem cells to cure numerous diseases and conditions, if we would just accept the destruction of unique, living human beings as collateral damage. Funding followed those promises, but efficacious therapies did not. The facts are clear. We must use our valuable resources responsibly by funding therapies with a proven record of success, not wasting them on ethically suspect research with disappointing results. We cannot afford to put ideology before science at the expense of patients who have no time to lose.”
StemCellResearchFacts.org, a project of the Charlotte Lozier Institute, was established in 2009 to facilitate and form a worldwide community dedicated to helping individuals, patients and families discover, learn and share the latest advances in adult stem cell research. To that end, the website has published 16 video testimonials – backed by peer-reviewed published science. These testimonials feature patients who have undergone successful therapies for a variety of conditions – including autoimmune diseases, cancer, spinal cord injury, heart disease, and more – using adult stem cells. They also convey the testimony of doctors and researchers on the merits of these treatments.
Charlotte Lozier Institute was launched in 2011 as the education and research arm of Susan B. Anthony List. CLI is a hub for research and public policy analysis on some of the most pressing issues facing the United States and nations around the world. The Institute is named for a feminist physician known for her commitment to the sanctity of human life and equal career and educational opportunities for women.
