Washington, D.C. – Tonight, the House voted to reopen the government after Democrats held it hostage for 43 days over demands to continue taxpayer-funded abortions through Obamacare.
SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser released the following statement:
“For over a month, Democrats chose to shut down the entire federal government to try to entrench and expand the Obama-Biden legacy of forcing Americans to pay for the destruction of unborn children.
We applaud Speaker Johnson and House Republicans for standing firm and rejecting Democrat hostage-taking to make taxpayer-funded abortion through Obamacare a condition for reopening the government. With an Obamacare floor vote in the Senate expected in December, we urge the GOP to continue to hold strong.”
SBA Pro-Life America opposes any funding of Obamacare that fails to include Hyde Amendment protections and will continue to score against any effort that forces Americans to pay for abortions. Last month, more than 100 pro-life groups sent a letter to Congress urging lawmakers to stop taxpayer funding of abortion through Obamacare.
