WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Claudia Tenney for U.S. Congress. Currently a state representative, Tenney is challenging incumbent Congressman Richard Hanna for the Republican nomination in a June 24th primary.
“As a state representative, Claudia Tenney has a proven record of protecting unborn children, women, and taxpayers,” said SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Rep. Tenney’s strong pro-life record stands in stark contrast to that of Congressman Richard Hanna, who has voted in favor of taxpayer funded abortion funding and even opposed legislation that would limit abortion after 20 weeks, or five months of pregnancy. Congressman Hanna has turned his back on pro-life taxpayers in New York’s 22nd district and must be defeated.”
Congressman Hanna has voted several times against pro-life legislation since taking office in 2011. In 2012, Congressman Hanna voted against the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, a bill that would ban sex-selection abortions. In 2013, Congressman Hanna voted against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a bill that would protect unborn children after 20 weeks, or more than halfway through the pregnancy. And in 2014, Congressman Hanna voted against the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.
Tenney currently serves the 101st Assembly District in the New York State Assembly, a position she has held since 2010. Prior to serving in elected office, Tenney opened her private practice law firm, established the Tenney Media Group as a publisher and corporate counsel, co-hosted several New York based television and radio shows, and served as chief of staff and legal counsel to Assemblyman David Towsend.
The Susan B. Anthony List and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women at all levels of government. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
