Historic Pro-life Ground Campaign Made More than 340,000 Voter Contacts

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) and its partner, Women Speak Out PAC, declared victory when pro-life Rep. Bill Cassidy defeated incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu in Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race.

“As a physician, Bill Cassidy has a unique understanding of the value and dignity of every human life. We are encouraged by his victory tonight,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List. “During his time in Washington, Congressman Cassidy has been a consistent advocate for the unborn, and voted for the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. We look forward to seeing this bill be advanced by a pro-life Senate in the new Congress.”

“Senator Landrieu lost tonight because, unlike Rep. Cassidy, her words and actions have not been consistent. Over the years, she repeatedly sought to mislead pro-life voters about her record on abortion. She wanted to enjoy the reputation of a pro-life Senator while voting for taxpayer funded abortion and opposing the most popular pro-life bill in the nation.”

A video report released Monday by The New York Times, cited abortion as the “preeminent issue” accounting for the shift in Louisiana’s Catholic voters towards pro-life Republican candidates.

“Voters responded to our message,” continued Dannenfelser. “Up to 91 percent of Louisianans we reached said they were less likely to vote for Senator Landrieu after learning about her pro-abortion record. Louisiana is ranked the #1 most pro-life state in the nation. Senator Landrieu abandoned her constituents to side with the Democratic Party platform of abortion on-demand. Tonight the voters abandoned her in response.”

The SBA List’s Women Speak Out PAC and Campaign for American Values PAC spent more than $1.5 million on a comprehensive ground game to reach low propensity pro-life voters at their doors and on the phones. Since April, more than 200 field representatives have knocked on over 190,000 doors and made more than 150,000 calls.

This year Women Speak Out PAC launched the largest ever pro-life door-to-door and phone call effort to impact races critical to building a Senate majority and kicking Harry Reid out of power. During the general and runoff elections, a team of more than 700 field representatives reached more than 1 million pro-life voters who typically do not vote in midterm elections. The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $15.25 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
