Pro-life Champion Will Not Seek Reelection
Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) announced he will retire from the U.S. House of Representatives. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List thanked Congressman Pitts for his public service, saying:
“For nearly twenty years, Congressman Joe Pitts has been a champion for the unborn and their mothers. From founding the Values Action Team to promote life and family, to serving as an active member of the House Pro-life Caucus, he has been an unyielding champion for the pro-life movement. He will be greatly missed.
“Rep. Pitts has been a tireless ally in the legislative battles of the last two decades, including the fight to address taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare, to advance the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and to defund Big Abortion. His 2010 appointment as chairman of the high-profile Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health was revealing of his profound leadership ability and policy knowledge. Following in the footsteps of Henry Hyde, Rep. Pitts has played a critical role in Congress’ ability to advance meaningful protections for the unborn as well as the conscience rights of taxpayers. We wish Congressman Pitts and his family the best in the future.”
The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $16.71 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
