Dannenfelser: Roe & Doe Settled Nothing; Momentum Building to Change Status Quo of Abortion On-Demand

Washington, D.C. –  Today Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed a bill limiting abortion after 15 weeks. H.B. 1510 passed 79-30 in the state House of Representatives and 35-14 in the Senate. Mississippi law already protects unborn children from late-term abortion after five months, more than halfway through pregnancy.

The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) praised Bryant and state legislators in a statement:

“We thank Governor Bryant and state lawmakers for their commitment to making Mississippi ‘the safest place in Americafor unborn children and their mothers,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Mississippi is at the vanguard of the growing momentum to bring our laws back into line with basic human decency. It is one of 20 states that have passed popular, compassionate legislation to stop cruel late-term abortions after five months. Our nation’s permissive regime of abortion on-demand at any point in pregnancy established in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton has made the United States a global outlier and does not reflect the will of most Americans – especially where late-term abortions are concerned. Absolutely nothing was settled. This unjust status quo is untenable, and it is in states like Mississippi where the greatest progress toward righting it is being made. It is about time the courts caught up.”

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 630,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
