Washington, D.C. – In response to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s commitments on abortion during his confirmation hearings this week, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:

“We are encouraged by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation hearings. When Kennedy was first nominated, we immediately voiced concern and the need for assurances given his previous positions on abortion. It is important that President Trump, Kennedy, and the GOP Senate took these concerns seriously and that public commitments were made. We will not score Kennedy’s nomination in committee or on the Senate floor.

“Pro-life Senators James Lankford, Steve Daines, Thom Tillis, Tim Scott and Josh Hawley posed specific questions to Kennedy on key pro-life priorities, and he provided clear answers and commitments.

“Most specifically, he pledged to carry out President Trump’s directives to end taxpayer funding of abortion at home and abroad. This means reimplementing the Protect Life Rule, which stops taxpayer funding of abortion businesses such as Planned Parenthood under Title X.

“Kennedy also pledged the federal government will no longer turn a blind eye to the well-documented complications women face from taking dangerous abortion drugs. He thinks it is wrong not to have adverse event reporting and committed to study the safety of the drugs.

“We agree with Kennedy’s broad remarks on abortion including the fact that ‘every abortion is a tragedy’ and ‘we cannot be a moral nation if we have 1.2 million abortions a year.’ He also said President Trump told him he wants to end late-term abortion, and he indicated he is actively hiring pro-life staff.

“Kennedy also said he will reinstate President Trump’s policies stopping government-supported experiments using body parts harvested from aborted babies. Kennedy is absolutely correct that these grisly experiments do not advance sound science or produce cures.”

Pro-life actions Trump and his administration have taken so far include:

  • Issuing an executive order directing all federal agencies to comply with the Hyde policy which blocks taxpayer funding of abortion on demand.
  • Reinstating the Global Protect Life Rule to redirect U.S. “family planning” funds from going to any foreign NGO that performs or promotes abortion.
  • Rejoining the Geneva Consensus Declaration, a landmark achievement between the United States and more than 30 nations affirming the right to life and rejecting abortion on demand.
  • Pardoning pro-life Americans jailed by the Biden-Harris administration for peacefully protesting abortion.
  • Speaking to the March for Life, the nation’s largest annual pro-life demonstration.
  • Issuing a Statement of Administration Policy supporting the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill – which simply requires medical personnel to “exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health” of a baby who survives a failed abortion attempt as with any other baby born at the same gestational age – passed the House this week but was blocked in the Senate when every Democrat voted against it.
  • Withdrawing from the pro-abortion World Health Organization.
  • Canceling the Biden-Harris Department of Health & Human Services’ pro-abortion website.

new Marist/Knights of Columbus nationwide poll confirms seven in 10 Americans want limits on abortion. Fifty-seven percent of Americans, including 54% of women, oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion domestically (29% “strongly” oppose) and 73% oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion abroad.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
